A Reformed Good Boy
Everyone leaves Jake, like a law of nature. It doesn’t matter but everyone always leaves Jake because he was bad.
At one point in his life, Jake tried to be a good boy, a good boy who no one would ever not love. It didn’t work, and people still left him and now his younger brother was hurting all because he was a bad big brother.
After the fifth or sixth time of someone leaving Jake, all that Jake wanted was to keep the one person who loved him. Maybe Jason was his best friend, but Trey was the only person to know everything about him.
Like, how badly it hurt every day to wake up, just because he was sure today would be the day someone else was taken away from him, for good. How it hurt to be friends with someone, because already his heart could feel the wear on the invisible rope that holds people together.
Jake didn’t have a crush on Luke. He honestly hated Luke, for everything he stood for. Happiness, joy, trusting and just everything Jason deserved. Maybe if Jake needled Luke enough, then the boy would either explode, making himself into a demon or run away.
If it was a gun, poison or a knife, Jake could’ve handled it. It could have pierced his lungs, made his blood stop flowing. Jake would find a way to survive.
But if his heart was hurt just one more time, Jake thinks, then he really will die.
